Heather and I met on a boat in Peru while journeying across Lake Titicaca to the islands of Uros, Amantani, and Tequile. We connected immediately as we shared travel stories and discovered that we both have a passion for global health. When we parted ways the next day, I had a lingering notion our encounter would lead to more adventures. A few months later she sent me an email about an eyecare mission she was organizing and invited me to join the team as the medical personnel. I signed on without hesitation.

We held clinic days as we traveled from Montego Bay down to Port Antonio in partnership with the local Lions Club members. Our team consisted of 5 optometrists, 1 optometry student, myself as the RN, and we saw over 1200 patients. It was a week filled with things that make me feel alive: travel, photography, providing healthcare in low-resource settings, swimming in the ocean, and bonding with an incredible group of people.
Here are some stories from under the Caribbean sun.
